4to2 Hair conversion tutorial: Part 3 Extracting the S4 mesh and texture

Are you ready for part 3? Now we are going to work on the s4 mesh. For me, this is one of the most fun parts, and I hope you will enjoy it too. In this part we will extract the mesh and the texture of the hair, turn it to s3 simgeom (because milkshape cannot recognize s4 simgeoms) and turn the hair to a wavefront object. Don't feel intimidated, it's extremely easy, I promise 💋

-Open Sims4 Studio from your workshop. Personally I don't have sims4, but this doesn't mean I can't use the related programs, so if it tells you that it is unable to find s4, hit ok.Also close any extra windows that may pop up.
-Click on "my projects" and find the s4 mesh, in your "My workshop/Curent project" folder.

Choose the grey texture, then choose diffuse and export your texture, like is shown in the pic below.

We have our texture (or textures. If you like more textures you can export them too, so you can use them in recoloring the hair, later on) Now let's get our precious simgeoms! Hit the warehouse and search the "geometry"lines.

If you click on it, you will see a preview of it. There are many sizes of the geometries, cause it has to do with the quality and the polycount. The bigger kb of the geometry, the higher quality of the mesh. Yet Sims2 is an old game. We can't have a polycount of -say- 30000 for a single hair. So let's try to find a middle ground. So find the quality you want, and right click to export it.

Save it as "s4mesh.simgeom" in your "current project" folder.

- Now go to "workshop folder" and open S4CASTools. Press X to any window that may pop up, except for the program's window. We want to see this:

-Now go to "mesh tools" tab, and then "conversions TS4/others" tab and follow the steps of the pics bellow.

-Our geom is a s3 geom now. Remember, we need it this way, in order to import it in Milkshape. Now let's work on our s4 texture. S2 textures are squares in dimensions, like 512x512 or 1024x1024. But that's not the case in s4. So open your photo editing program to fix that. I will use gimp for this tutorial.

-Open gimp and drag your sims4 "grey.dds" texture in the gimp window.
-there will be a pop-up window. Uncheck "load mipmaps"and click ok.

We resized the canvas. Now pick the cut tool so you can cut the picture in those dimensions!
Your texture will be square now. It's time to save it. Follow the instructions in the pics  to save it in  (where else?) the "current project file" 😁

Your texture and geom are ok, and ready to be used in Milkshape. Close gimp and open Milkshape, so that we can move on to the next part!
