4to2 Hair conversion tutorial: Part 1, preparing the workshop

After many people asked, I decided to give it a second chance and try again to make a simple, easy tutorial on how to convert sims hair, from s3 or s4 to sims2.

The first thing to do, is to prepare a workshop. That is basically cause I hate seeing files here and there. So I keep ALL of my files and programs in a tidy folder that I call sims workshop.

So do it, create a folder, name it whatever you like and download and place inside the programs and the files I show bellow.

-First, pick a sims 2 hair, that will be your base hair FOR ALL the conversions you'll ever make. Personally I use Trapping's Newsea Swan conversion. Get it here, then keep the mesh and one recolor in "base hair" folder

-download any hair colors you like, and keep them in your workshop. I use Pooklet's mayhem color actions

-You will also need some bodybases, cause you have to see how the hair looks on the actual sims body. Get those here!

-You will also need a photo editing program, such as Photoshop or Gimp. I use Gimp because it's easier and free. You can get it here, and you will also download and install a pluggin so that it can recognize DDS file, cause S4 textures are in dds

-It's time to get your Milkshape, together with the q-mesh pluggins you need, and the registration code to keep it working (I m a thug, I know...)

-You will need S4 cas tools so that you can convert the s4 simgeom to s3 simgeom, in order to import it in Milkshape.

-Simpe is also needed in order to actually import your new mesh, back to the game.

-S4 studio is needed in order to export the mesh and the texture from the original s4 hair.

And that's it! Do you have it all? Cause that's what you will ever need in your workshop, in order to convert any s4 female's hair. It's useful to download one of trapping's male hairs, as a base too, if you want to convert male hairs also.

Your beautiful, tidy workshop!
Ready for step two?

    1. You can place the bodybases folder in your "workshop" folder, and keep it there.
